Gulf County BOCC lowers millage rate for sixth consecutive year

GULF COUNTY, Fla. — For the sixth year in a row, the Gulf County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has voted to lower the county's millage rate as property values continue to rise.

Bar chart of DR-420 certified countywide property values by fiscal year, rising from about $1.4 billion in FY 2015-16 to about $4.4 billion in FY 2026-27.

At its September 22, 2026, meeting, the Board voted 5-0 to reduce the countywide general fund rate by one-tenth of a mill, from 5.6 to 5.5 mills. The aggregate millage rate for Fiscal Year 2026-27 is 5.8854 mills.

The reduction means the County is expected to collect approximately $432,480 less in property tax revenue than it would have at the previous 5.6-mill rate. Individual tax bills will vary based on a property's taxable value, any exemptions, and the rates set by other taxing authorities.

"We've cut the millage every year. I think we owe it to the people."Commissioner Phil McCroan

The 5.8854-mill aggregate rate is 4.17% above the aggregate rollback rate of 5.6496 mills, which is the rate that would generate the same revenue as last year, excluding new construction. The reduced rate will apply to 2026 property tax bills.
